Everlasting Storm Conversation Starters

  1. If you lived near Catatumbo Bay, Venezuela, and could watch the storm every night, you might be able to help scientists discover why and how it happens. What details or measurements of the weather, lightning, thunder, clouds etc. would you record?
  2. Using what you learned in the episode about why thunder and lighting happen, talk about why certain places on earth and certain seasons of the year have more or less lightning and thunderstorms. What about where you live?
  3. Knowing exactly what makes lightning and thunder happen can make them less scary. Use your knowledge as a meteorologist (weather scientist) to explain this to others who might still be scared – a younger friend or sibling or your dog or cat!
