Birds Of A Feather Conversation Starters

1. Talk about what birds you see or hear the calls of around the area you live. Do some of them seem to appear only in the summer or winter? Which ones do you think migrate and where do you think they go when they leave?
2. Imagine you are a migratory bird. You can spend half of the year in your town and the other half either far north or south of where you live. Which direction will you choose, and where would you want to end up? Plan your route including how many days you would fly at a time and where you would stop off for food and rest.
3. Unlike people, birds can sleep with half of their brains to keep flying and moving for days at a time with no stop… If you could stay semi-awake for days what would you do with this super-ability?
